3 Things You Can Rent From Funeral Homes

The days following the loss of a loved one can be a very emotional and challenging time to navigate. A visit to the funeral home may reveal numerous expenses you are not prepared to pay. Fortunately, depending on the type of service you want, there are several things that can be rented and do not have to be purchased outright. Here are a few to consider.

1. Casket

A casket is one of the most significant expenses associated with a traditional funeral, with costs averaging more than $2,000. Some models can cost much more depending on their constructed materials. Caskets can be purchased directly from funeral homes or online and shipped directly to your mortician.

Fortunately, this is a purchase you can avoid. If you are cremating your loved one and need a casket for the viewing or service, you can rent one. Once the service is over, the funeral home will place the remains in a sturdy container to transport the body to the crematorium. Rental prices will vary but will be much less than the outright purchase of a casket.

2. Funeral Flowers

Flowers usually are present when you think of a funeral or a memorial service. Funeral flowers may include a casket spray or other large wreaths and arrangements. Whether you choose live or artificial flowers, floral arrangements can be expensive.

If you are willing to use artificial flowers, you can rent the arrangements you want to use. When you consider that the flowers are only going to lay on the grave in the elements following the service, this can be a great way to save money and recycle these flowers.

3. Funeral Clothing

If your loved one does not have clothing that you feel is appropriate for the funeral service, you don't have to go out and purchase something new for them to wear. You can rent funeral clothing directly from the funeral home.

Most funeral homes will offer you several choices of suits or dresses that will be visible on the body while it is lying in the casket during the viewing. Once the service is over, the funeral home will change the body into appropriate clothing for cremation or other disposals of the remains.

You can have excellent funeral services at a fraction of the cost of what you may think. Ask your funeral director for other ways to reduce the cost of your desired services.
